Guy Baker is the founding partner and managing director of BTA Advisory Group. Despite his 60 years of industry experience, Guy has always tried to better himself for the benefit of his clients and business. He finished a PhD in Retirement and Financial Services at the American College, where he sudied the newest strategies in retirement income planning and investing.

His experience in the investment and estate planning fields is extensive. He has completed many estate plans for HNW families working with nationally known estate planning attorneys. Guy helped found the National Association of Family Wealth Counselors and was a founding Board Member in The Stewardship Alliance – a group of professionals dedicated to providing legacy and wealth planning to high net worth donors to Christian ministries. He completed the Professional Mentoring Program in 1999 and has lectured at various estate planning council meetings, spoken at many CLU Institutes and has been featured on several CLU Tele-video Conferences.

Guy has been active in his community, church and the financial services industry throughout his career through volunteering, speaking, writing and giving.

Early in his career, he was elected by his peers to be President of the Orange County Life Underwriter’s Association. Under his leadership, OC NAIFA became one of the few chapters in the US to reach 1000 members. He was selected by GAMA as the Man of the Year and was a leading life insurance producer for Pacific Life his entire career earning Chairman of the Board Honors over ten consecutive years. PL chose him as the first recipient of the Distinguished Preston Hotchkis Award, and became the youngest agent ever admitted to the PL Hall of Fame.

Guy qualified for the Million Dollar Round Table during his first year in the insurance business. MDRT has over 85000 members in 35 countries. Members must qualify annually to join. He went on to qualify for the Top of Table, a club that represents the top 5% of MDRT internationally. He has been a member for 50 years. A frequent MDRT speaker, writing books and holding workshops around the country. He has made important contributions to the careers of many advisors as a coach and mentor. He has been chosen numerous times to be a speaker at MDRT, TOT and AALU.

Guy was elected by the MDRT to the Executive Committee, serving as President in 2010. This culminated many years of volunteering at MDRT where he also was elected President of the MDRT Foundation and headed up many committees and divisions. He led the restructuring the MDRT internet presence, and was the author of the first productivity book. He worked to improve member communications and ethical standards and served on many industry task forces.

Guy also chaired many committees for the Association of Advanced Life Underwriters, an industry influencer in Washington DC. He was a frequent speaker at AALU meetings snd served as program chair. He was also elected to the AALU Board of Directors.

An Alum of the American College, Guy completed the qualifications for a CLU, ChFC, RHU, and earned two masters degrees – MSFS and MSM. He is a CFP and finished the American

College PhD program in 2016. He has appeared on many tele-video conferences, as a speaker at several Symposiums, as well as CLU Institutes.

Guy helped start the National Association of Stewardship Advisors serving as President for two years. He founded the Stewardship Alliance, a consulting firm providing charitable giving consulting to numerous philanthropic entities.

A pioneer, Guy was one of the first MDRT members to begin asset management in the early 90’s. He was selected by Worth Magazine as one of the top 250 Advisors in the US. Guy was elected to the National Association of Estate Planners and Councils Hall of Fame in 2005 and awarded an honorary AEP Designation Distinguished. He was recently admitted to the International Financial Advisors Hall of Fame out of Vancouver BC.

Perhaps, the apex of his career happened when Guy was chosen as the 2018 John Newton Russell Awardee by a committee of his peers. He is only the 77th recipient of this honor, based on his longstanding contribution to the industry, his community and his clients. He was also selected by the California NAIFA Chapter as the Norman G Levine recipient in 2000. He is only the 78th recipient of this prestigious honor.

Guy has played an active role in his community. He was elected President of the CMC Alumni Association Board after graduating from Claremont McKenna College. He established the George Van Tubergen Community Service Award in honor of the Alumni director at his death. This endowment provides scholarships for interns to work on community service projects.

Guy has participated in many other ways in the community. Guy raised significant funds for United Way and was made a board member at the local YMCA in South Orange County. He joined the President’s Advisory Board for the Center of Orange County Performing Arts Center and was one of the leading fund raisers for building the Center. He was President of The Christian Mexican Missions for several years. MCM trained pastors and founded churches throughout Baja Mexico. He also served on the Mission Hospital Foundation Board and was active on their professional advisory board. He was asked to serve on the President’s Advisory Board for BIOLA College, working to help complete their Capital Campaign. He was elected to the Mission Viejo Country Club board and was Chairman of the Finance Committee.

Dedicated to education, Guy helped found the Grace Classical Academy, the first Classical education institution in Orange County. As Board Chair, he led their initiative to purchase 5 acres in South Orange County and build the school facilities. He is also serves as an Elder for Grace Church, working as finance chair. He was part of their  building campaign chair and led the Men’s Fellowship and Deacon Board..

Guy was actively involved in America Family Living and Orange Family Chapel, serving as President for over ten years. AFL helped families in distress. provide family and divorce counseling at a very low cost. He has been a frequent guest on the AFL radio program.

In business, Guy manages three organizations, employs 25 associates who serve 50 advisors around the US. He founded a built a significant Registered Investment Advisory firm and successful management consulting company, serving many businessowners and families. A frequent writer and speaker, Guy has spoken to advisors in more than forty countries. His most recent book, “The Great Wealth Erosion,” teaches investors how to control the four critical factors that oftentimes make or break long-term investment success. Other books Guy has written include “Investment Alchemy,” a guide to stock market management; and “Baker’s Dozen,” which cover’s Guy’s thirteen fundamental principles for financial independence; each with over 20,000 in print. His best-selling work, “The Box”, is an easily understood discussion about the fundamentals of life insurance. Over 500,000 copies of “The Box” have been distributed throughout the financial services industry. He has mentored many advisors around the world including a large group in Singapore over the internet. He developed a business coaching program using his popular book Market Tune-up.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, he and Colleen have been married since 1967. They have four children, 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Despite all of his efforts on behalf of the industry and community, his commitment and unwavering support of his family is and always has been his most important accomplishment. Empty nesters, he and Colleen remain actively involved in the lives of their family, providing comfort and support whenever needed.
